Winter Respiratory Disease
RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) – Winter Respiratory Disease
RSV is a major cause of respiratory illness, particularly targeting infants and the elderly. The virus can lead to bronchiolitis and pneumonia, requiring hospitalisation and intensive care in severe cases. The new vaccination programme is a proactive measure to mitigate these risks and enhance public health.
From Monday the 16th September we are offering appointments in dedicated clinics, with GPs, for the RSV vaccine.
Appointments with GPs will run on various days, offering a one-off vaccine to those aged 75*-79, pregnant ladies to protect infants, from 28 weeks gestation and anyone who turns 80 years of age between the 2nd September 2024 and the 31st August 2025 (date of birth between the 2nd September 1944 and the 31st August 1945).
Please phone the surgery on 733322 or ask at reception to book an appointment.
The vaccine is free of charge but there is a £13.00 charge to administer it.
Please wear short sleeves, as the vaccine is administered to the upper arm.
*Adults aged 75 years of age on or after the 1st September 2024 (date of birth on or after the 1st September 1949 and not before).
